@Bigmagoo013 years agoI am working for a kitchen company sometimes we have to measure unbranded sinks. It could be nice just to drop a photo and then measure later on in the office. @yinhoeong8 months agoHi sir, I am using Iphone 13 and 3D Scanner App TM to scan a rock core which is size is about 1.3 m x 1.3 m. When I import the cloud data in Analist software, I found the average distance between one cloud point to the nearest cloud point is about 15 mm. I am not able to do any setting using the 3D scanner app TM. Q1. Do you know how to increase the density of the could point or in other word decrease the spacing between cloud data ? Q2. Did you notice any difference in 3D scanning using Iphone 13 and Iphone 13 Pro ? Thank you. ...1

@CosmicGorilla3 years agoQQ: I’m going to start scanning prehistoric cromlechs and standing stones using an iPhone LiDAR sensor but to get the tips of the roof stones I’m going to have to mount the phone on a long pole. Would this work? That is will the app keep scanning without a finger on the button? I’ll be standing on the ground holding a long extendible pole with my phone mounted on the end of it three or four meters above my head. ...

@emgee443 years agoI was in my local Apple store looking at the latest iPad Pro, a tech came over and asked if she could help. I asked if she could explain how the LiDAR worked and it's benefits. She then went into how it improves the resolution of your photo's!? I knew that wasn't quite right so I pressed her on it's measuring capabilities, the young lady quickly fetched another colleague who then went off on about how's more to do with AR and that the apps were in still in development, oh and that he's a physicist, just so I'd know what he knew, what he was talking about. I really should have just checked YouTube instead, as you've clearly explained it and as I thought, you need a 3rd party app to really utilise it. I'm sure it'll get better just like GPS did back in the 90's, when people used to say "what do you need that for?" ...

@harrychildress45752 years agoShould anyone have an answer, please reply. On Science Archaeology sites they mention using LIDAR to strip the trees and shrubbery away from images to see any physical structures. They have found habitats and pyramids this way. Gut, I could use that same technology to find hidden structures under my lawn. Ever looked for a sprinkler head or valve at a location your trying to fix the system? When my current home was being built, I arrived at times to locate some underground systems, and chiseled lines or arrows pointing to things. BUT even with that, it’s still difficult, and in one case I wasn’t able to locate the sprinkler structure. LiDAR would be a big game changer for those who have jobs doing this. So if anyone has an answer, let me know. ...

@RandomBogey3 years agoWhile I find it impressive such a small device is capable of scanning an entire room and whatnot, I can’t help but find it a bit creepy as well. No doubt they’re saving all that mapped data somewhere. Same with the Lidar vacuum cleaners; they’re just mapping the inside of your house inch by inch. They easily know where every piece of furniture is placed in your house. I suspect that pretty soon, it’ll be as common place to have an interior map of any home you walk by as it is to have an interior map of a mall or big store built into the apple maps app. ...5
