She spent time living with the animals in a Tanzanian jungle to observe them first-hand in their natural environment. Her discoveries have since changed how we perceive animal rights, and the position of human beings in relation to the rest of the species on the planet. Yet, Goodall was initially dismissed by her fellow academics as a "National Geographic covergirl."
