Exploring Abandoned Psych Ward (I ALMOST CRIED)

Urban Exploration/Urbexing - We explore an abandoned Psychiatric Hospital and we find connection to the ACTIVE part of the hospital. This spectacular facility was originally constructed in 1912 as part of the Farm Colony of Brooklyn State Hospital, one of hundreds of similar Psychiatric Wards. It served as housing and rehabilitation for those who were ill-equipped to function non their own. Many of the patients were afflicted with psychosis and schizophrenia. In 1984 a patient was struck in the throat with a blackjack by a staff member and later died. By 1959 the hospital was described as a crowded, understaffed institution. By 2006, other parts of the campus had been sold and the inpatient census was down to 740. Today part of the hospital continues to operate, housing only a few hundred patients and providing outpatient services.
