Junk Fishing For Spring Bass

In the immediate prespawn, bass can start to act a little funny. You find a few fish here and there but you can't get on a consistent bite. Well that is what happened on this particular day. With on-and-off wind throughout the trip, it was challenging to look for beds. When I did look in the shallow water, however, I never really found anything that resembled one. I noticed a handful of bass that appeared to be "thinking of making beds" but just weren't quite there yet. When fish are in this stage, I find that they can be a real challenge to catch. Ultimately, it ended up being a total "junk fishing" day. Essentially that just means I caught fish on several different lures/locations and never developed a true pattern. Nothing wrong with that! Just need to remember that there are fish in numerous stages this time of year so it is okay to mix it up.
