As the song by Neil Young says, "Roll on, Southern Pacific!" The first day of September was a special one for us. Word was out that Union Pacific's locomotive #6310 was coming through Southwestern Ontario. Originally rostered as Southern Pacific #264, this unit has retained its Southern Pacific paint with the exception of a UP patch under the cab with its new road number. We made it to the western end of the Galt Sub at Waterloo Street with plenty of time to spare and settled in to wait. We were joined by RailwayCityRails (/channel/UCUStk2a--BA58sAtQkz4cAA/videos) , which made the time pass a lot more quickly. We finally saw the signal down the line on the Windsor Sub turn first to yellow and then finally to red... CP 650 rolled though led by CP #8881 (a GE ES44AC) and a friendly wave from the crew. The train was hauling 96 ethanol tankers and a buffer car at the front and back of the consist. It was making good time; so it didn't take long for the end DPU to make its appearance in the late afternoon sun. UP #6310 came up the tracks and ended the show with some great sound and smoke as she passed us by. I never thought that I would ever see this unit roll through London, Ontario....
