Washington Today (8-11-23): AG Garland appoints special counsel in Hunter Biden investigation

Attorney General Merrick Garland appoints a special counsel in the Hunter Biden investigation, and that special counsel is U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who has been prosecutor in the investigation up until now. We will hear from the Attorney General, Rep. Jason Smith (R-MO) and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) White House defends the possible deal with Iran in which 5 detained Americans will be set free, and Iran will get access to $6 billion of its money that has been frozen due to sanctions. Death toll continues to rise from the wildfires on the Hawaiian island of Maui, as the fight continues to get the fires under control, and thoughts turn to dealing with the widespread damage and rebuilding. We will hear from Vice President Kamala Harris. More republican presidential candidates descend on the Iowa State Fair, including former Vice President Mike Pence and Miami Mayor Francis Suarez.
