THE SWEAT is a gritty story of survival - told from the perspective of a Black British father and daughter - traversing a crumbling dystopian London in search of his son and her mother. This is one of my most bold books to date! I ask difficult questions of the world I diligently created and allowed the answers to become the foundation for my script. When Errol Jackson woke up, he wanted to divorce his wife and life; by that evening, he and one quarter of Britain were facing the end of the world. With a fast spreading illness turning friends, neighbours and strangers into irrational, merciless predators; Errol and his wife Naomi, quickly realise that in order to keep their two children alive, they need to put their marital issues aside, work as one and trust no one. With their home no longer a safe place, they are forced to leave and traverse a dark dystopian London, headed towards the coast, in hope of promised salvation. The infected are a serious problem, but fellow survivors begin to prove worse. With no authority, ordinary people are forced to govern themselves, fight for scraps and are prepared to do the unspeakable for shelter and sustenance. How will Errol and Naomi protect their children, Nubia and Shaquille, in this hellish version of the UK, where the dark brings the infected and the light exposes the worst sides of humanity imaginable. THE SWEAT is a post-apocalyptic drama set in London. The first instalment is complete at 65,000 words, and is part of a three-book series, which follows the journey of a crumbling British family, doing all they can to survive a nationwide infection, rapidly desolating the British isles. ‘THE SWEAT’ strives to add something new to the survival genre, by being told mostly from the perspective of both a minority and female protagonist. The story, in part, seeks to explore how easily savagery, cannibalism, racism, bigotry and open sexual exploitation could manifest rapidly in a once civilised, first world nation, where social-judicial filters, guidance and deterrents cease to exist. The Sweat has been likened by one reader to Cormac McCarthy's ‘The Road’, and by another to the award winning Sony computer game ‘The last of us’.
