I wanted to discuss sharing economy companies, and provide a framework based on Perren and Kozinets (2017) and others’ work on the sharing economy. What is the sharing economy? From my perspective and others, it encompasses some form of resource exchange over software platform intermediation. Many people focus on the social and networked aspects of the platform. To a large degree, it does not different much from the existing economy, we still use all of the same mechanisms in the traditional economy, but software platforms amplify the effects of the traditional economy. Perren and Kozinets classify different platforms into consociality and platform intermediation, and they come up with 4 types: : Forums Matchmakers : Enablers Hubs Here are some key aspects of the sharing economy: 1. Focus on the long-tail. It is about connecting people that would not normally be connected in the real world. 2. Blurring of boundaries. Roles are boundaries change rapidly in the sharing economy. 3. Trust and reciprocity. I think this is the term of consociality that occurs. 4. Quality mechanisms. The platform needs to display good quality mechanisms. 5. Content production.
