Internationally recognized scholars and Wesley faculty members Dr. Denise Dombkowski Hopkins, The Woodrow W. and Mildred B. Miller Professor of Biblical Theology, and Dr. Carla Works, Professor of New Testament, offered a discussion on Scripture as a living text that is understood in context. Answering questions from attendees, their reflections took into account the context being lived by the U.S. that week: the killing of George Floyd by police that ignited protests across the country seeking justice, policing reform and an end to racism, and the use of the Bible and St. John's Episcopal Church for a Presidential photo op that required the use of riot police and tear gas to clear peaceful protesters in front of the White House. Interested in studying with Dr Hopkins and Dr. Works? Wesley offers foundational courses in Hebrew Scripture and the New Testament this Fall at Wesley. Courses are open to degree and non-degree students.
