Fintan O Brienمنذ 5 سنوات Interesting video. It stirred a memory of the 60s and 70s when I was young, my dad got a bad old auto changer turntable, we children used to play all sorts id="hidden2" class="buttons"> or records (including 78s) on it, my brother used to roll the records about the room. Sometimes I would experiment to see how many records I could pile on the auto changer. However in the seven years we had it, a new stylus was never bought. They must have been better pressings in those days because I now have all those records and they play relatively well, given the bad treatment they got. ....وسعت 3

On my latest Ortofon OM20, I’m currently at 213 records played, so I estimate this is approximately 200 hours given many records are 40 min etc. I even count a double record as 1 unit, so it averages out. I’ve been using this technique for quite a while and have had good results. When I hit 1,000, I order a new stylus immediately. If anyone’s interested, I also use the Audio-Technica AT607 Stylus Cleaning Forumula before and after playback. Charles Ludwigمنذ 6 سنوات Knowledge of subtle record and stylus wear is difficult for me to discern unless its effect is abrupt. A microscope can reveal wear and may support a good id="hidden26" class="buttons"> understanding of what has brought about sound degradation. Just this morning I listened to a new album I purchased yesterday, a Bill Evans recording. The album popped at revolution intervals but did not appear to be scratched. A 3 power magnifier in strong light however did indeed reveal a scratch, which made me think the album was a repackaged affair. At any rate, that album is going back to the book store where I purchased it later today. So, yes, having a microscope seems to be a means not only to appraise stylus and record wear but also to discern record defects while it may still be possible to return such defective albums. ....وسعت 4

All jokes aside I could not tell what part of the Dorian diamond was worn down, but id="hidden27" class="buttons"> I'm guessing right below the tip. The absolute best way you could have improved on this info was to place a photo of the worn down Dorian next to a photo of any comparable stereo needle that is brand new. I have many hours on my Sumiko Blackbird, and I pulled the box out and noticed paperwork showing I already had it re-tipped in 2007, which I don't remember doing. I have no idea how many hours are on the needle, I semi-regularly play one of my best audiophile pressings of music that I might not like a whole lot and listen to how well the stylus tracks by how well the record/music sounds or if there are extraneous noises that would not be part of the record pressing. I have set the needle down quite a few times missing the record and each time I think, "well there goes the stylus", but I put it on a record and it sounds fine. All my records are cleaned with the VPI HWP-17F. As Mr. Palmer says below Soundsmith offers a great deal on re-tipping etc. There top of the line service for boron cantilevers starts at $495. A new Blackbird is $1250. The microscope is well worth it, thanks. ....وسعت

After several iterations, it is now dead center in the mount, pounting directly down (easy to verify because of the magnets placed at a 90 degree angle from each other at the other end of the cantilever). Apparently, you are unable to communicate accurately and effectively. The first few sentences indicate that your id="hidden40" class="buttons"> thoughts are all confused. This would explain your negative ratings that you have received. So in reality, I stopped your video. The objective here is to capture your audience. Which cleanly you haven't. Your heading conflicts with your sub heading.
When you are replace a worn stylus, the cartridge does not need replacing. The two only need to be switch out if you are upgrading. Hense, that is why cartridge/ stylus manufactures sell their product as a combo or separately. For example, Ortofon and Audio Techncia line of products. They sell their cartridge/ stylus as a combo, or separately.

Gweeep Patiمنذ 4 سنوات Sorry to say, your info in this video is near worthless.
Please refer to Shure company manual about how to recognize stylus wear, available via id="hidden42" class="buttons"> search.
You need two lamps shining on either side of the stylus, with 200x magnification generally.
I have such a microscope and inspect styli using what I shall call the "dots of light" method.
The images you present are not even 200x , which I see you acknowledge in comments.
You are not using dual lamps to create the needed light refraction through the stylus, so really you are doing "nada".
Anyway, your method is useless unless you are looking to see if the tip of the stylus is missing, which actually is common.
Otherwise, please educate yourself about the needed procedure before you proclaim this be how to recognize the condition of a stylus.
Maybe this microscope could accomplish the needed assay, but not as you use it.

RCElectricFlyerمنذ 6 سنوات For good cartridges for LPs and 45s with good stylii, shouldn't you be looking for enlargement of the side radii of the hyperellipical, shibata, or id="hidden43" class="buttons"> similar geometry where it contacts the grooves? And isn'it the enlargement of these radii to a certain point that determine when the stylii are worn out and should be replaced? The point of these geometries is to provide a reasonably large contact area with a minimum of tracing distortion. When these radii enlarge, high frequency information in the groove gets boosted and harmonic distortion (due to increased tracing error) increases. The video infers that the stylus should be changed when is worn to the point that its overall size is much smaller than it was when it was new. I think this is WAY TOO LATE as the stylus can no longer trace as it was originally intended. The master is cut with a sharp edged cutter, so any radius on the playback follower adds tracing distortion. It is fortunate that through most audible frequencies this distortion is very small - particularly when the stylus is new. ....وسعت 4

You mentioned that the stylus should be replaced between 1000 and id="hidden48" class="buttons"> 1500 hours of use but.
Nagaoka, as an example, recommends the following:
The stylus replacement interval varies depending on the using conditions. But for general use at home, the reference time is between 150-200 hours in which the stylus begin to wear and the tone quality deteriorates. Recommend replacing the stylus as aerly as possible to enjoy clear tone for a long time and not to damge the disc grooves.
Às so, you shall follow manufacturers recommendations, also .
